“There are many citizens whose vital contributions to our democracy often times go unnoticed,” said Damon Circosta, executive director of the N.C. Center for Voter Education. “This award is a way to recognize their important work and hopefully inspire all of us to do our part to strengthen our community and state.”
The individual selected as “Outstanding Citizen” will join public servants and journalists honored at the 2011 Spectrum of Democracy Awards, to be held Feb. 24 at the Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel. Event tickets are available for purchase at ncvotered.com/spectrum.
Last year’s “Outstanding Citizen” was Kevin Hight, a civic teacher and student council advisor at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville who has instilled the value of engaged citizenship in thousands of North Carolina students.
