Carolina Kids Can ‘Vote’ this Fall

RALEIGH - The candidates have reached out to “NASCAR dads” and “soccer moms,” but perhaps its time they court the “playground kid” vote.

The National Student/Parent Mock Election is coming to our state just days before the real voting takes place. Across North Carolina, children and their parents will get the chance to make their voices heard.

On October 28, K-12 students across the state will join their peers throughout the nation in casting a ballot for US President, along with statewide contests. The mission of the Mock Election is to help our country’s youth understand the power of their vote and inspire them to go to polls when they turn 18.

Teachers and parents interested in this exciting, educational and free project can go online to www.nationalmockelection.org for more information. There, they can download election material at no charge. They can also contact the NC Center for Voter Education, toll-free, at 1-877-253-7819.

The program in North Carolina is being coordinated by the State Board of Elections, who will also be tallying the votes.

In its 24 years, the National Student/Parent Mock Election has mobilized over 40 million future voters.
