NCCVE Election-Year Efforts Give Folks the Facts, Promote the Vote

The North Carolina Center for Voter Education was hard at work in 2006, raising awareness about the state’s elections and empowering voters with the facts they needed to cast a confident ballot.

Some 2006 highlights:

'Judge for Yourself' on UNC-TVThe N.C. Center for Voter Education joined with UNC-TV to produce a judicial candidate forum. The three-episode series was broadcast from the mountains to the sea, and offered voters a rare in-depth look at the candidates and issues in the races for the N.C. Supreme Court and N.C. Court of Appeals.

Judicial elections went online with the Center’s “Judge for Yourself” podcast series, offering half-hour interviews with candidates for the state’s highest courts.

The Center offered facts on the candidates with its online voter guide at www.ncvoterguide.org. The site provided information on the qualifications and experiences of the candidates, and included a two-minute video statement from each appellate-level judicial contender.

Reaching out to young voters, the Center re-launched the Go Vote PSA Contest. Entries came from across the state -- and as far away as Montana -- showcasing creative uses of video, audio and graphic art to promote voter participation.end
