Oct. 4, 2007 The Evolution of the Presidential TV Ad
From John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, we take a look at the evolution of the presidential TV ad throughout the years. The 'Daisy' Ad (1964)
This 1964 ad from the Lyndon Johnson campaign ran just once, but it did much to play on the fear that his Republican rival, Barry Goldwater, was dangerously hawkish in his Cold War stance. Johnson went on to win the White House and the ad has influenced presidential advertising in the 40 years since its airing. View the other ads mentioned in the podcast: Watch many more presidential spots from elections past at The Living Room Candidate from the Museum of the Moving Image. |
