RALEIGH – As it prepares a series of election year initiatives, the nonpartisan N.C. Center for Voter Education has added four new members to its board of directors.

Joining the Center's board are Ms. Elizabeth Dove, The Honorable Grier Martin, The Honorable Allen H. Wellons and Ms. Devon E. White.

“We are delighted and privileged to add such civic-minded individuals to our outstanding board of directors and look forward to their involvement as the Center for Voter Education continues its mission of informing voters and improving elections in North Carolina,” says Mr. Chris Heagarty, executive director of the Raleigh-based nonprofit.

Ms. Elizabeth Dove of Raleigh is the manager for Solution Sales and Strategies for Retail and CPG at SAS Institute, and is a graduate of Meredith College.

The Honorable Grier Martin of Raleigh is a member of the N.C. House of Representatives, representing District 34, and is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan.

The Honorable Allen H. Wellons of Smithfield is a principal of Wilkins & Wellons and is a former member of the North Carolina Senate, serving in 1996, 1998 and 2000.

Ms. Devon E. White of Raleigh is an associate with Olive & Olive, P.A., and managed N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Wanda G. Bryant's successful statewide judicial campaign in 2004.

The four new members join the board of directors chaired by Rockingham Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Edwin G. Wilson, Jr. Meredith College Trustee Ms. Deborah Dove Smith of Raleigh is the vice chair. Cary Mayor Pro Tempore Jack W. Smith serves as the board treasurer secretary. Former U.S. Senator Robert Morgan of Lillington is president emeritus.

Mr. Heagarty notes that with the organization readying major voter education efforts, including the special “Judge for Yourself” podcast series and an online voter guide, having a strong board of directors is key to success.

“We are very fortunate to have a board of directors which is tremendously supportive of our work,” says Mr. Heagarty. “Each member feels passionately that an informed electorate is vital to a healthy democracy.”
