Center Announces Winners of Go Vote ’06 PSA Contest
RALEIGH - The results are in, and the N.C. Center for Voter Education is pleased to announce the winners of the “Go Vote ’06 PSA Contest.”
Aimed at using creative multimedia messages to boost voter turnout at the polls, the contest featured categories for video, audio and graphic art, and included divisions for college students, high school students and non-students.
The theme of the contest was simply “go vote.” All PSA (public service announcement) entries were required to be nonpartisan, meaning they could not favor or oppose any candidate or political party, keeping in the spirit of the Center’s mission to encourage voter participation, regardless of political affiliation.
North Carolina faces a so-called “blue-moon election” this year, with no high-profile race for the White House, governor’s mansion or U.S. Senate to propel voter turnout, a scenario that occurs just once every 12 years.
“Without the big-ticket races we saw in 2004, this year’s election is in danger of seeing very low turnout, even with voters deciding key races, such as determining the majority of justices on the state Supreme Court,” says Bryan Warner, director of communications for the N.C. Center for Voter Education. “Our hope is that these PSAs help remind voters of the importance of exercising this vital right, and inspire them to go to the polls on Election Day.”

• Jason Bullock (UNC-Pembroke): winner, video category, college student division
• Tan Tran (Millbrook High School, Raleigh): winner, video category, high school student division
