The Pulse of N.C. Voters Now: Exclusive New Research Data to be Released

WHAT: Media conference to release exclusive new research data on the current trends of N.C. voter opinion in regards to elected state government officials, and to discuss options for change.

WHEN: Thursday, June 23, 9am.

WHERE: Legislative Press Conference Room, State Legislative Building, Raleigh

WHO: Chris Heagarty, Executive Director, N.C. Center for Voter Education
Senator Stan Bingham (R-Davidson)
Senator Dan Clodfelter (D-Mecklenburg)

WHY NOW: The State Superintendent’s race is still up in the air. The contest for State Agriculture Commissioner went on well past Election Day. The Meg Scott Phipps scandal rocked North Carolina. The Council of State has made recent headlines, but just how much do Tar Heel voters know about these offices? Is this any way to select these officials?

The release of this data will answer these questions, and put into context current legislation aimed at changing the way Council of State candidates run for office in North Carolina.

Also revealed at this media conference:

* Do N.C. voters even know who represents their interests in state government?
* What do N.C. voters think about the influence of money in politics?
* President Bush versus Governor Easley: Who ranks higher with N.C. voters?
* Which member of the Council of State is better known than the newest “American Idol”? (The answer WILL surprise you.)

MEDIA RESOURCES: A media kit will be available at the conference, including poll result data.
