Jack Abramoff

Ex-Lobbyist Abramoff to Visit Peace University for Discussion on Government Corruption and Reforming the System

Jack Abramoff, formerly one of the nation’s most powerful and notorious lobbyists, will visit William Peace University to offer his unique insight into Washington corruption and explain ways to reform the political system.

The free public event, hosted by the North Carolina Center for Voter Education will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Kenan Recital Hall on the campus of Peace University in downtown Raleigh. Doors open to the general public at 7:00 p.m.

Damon Circosta, executive director of the nonpartisan N.C. Center for Voter Education, will lead a discussion with Abramoff that will include audience questions.

Once dubbed by Time Magazine as “The Man Who Bought Washington,” Abramoff rose to become one of the most influential figures in the halls of government before being sentenced to six years in federal prison for mail fraud and conspiracy charges. After serving 43 months of his sentence, Abramoff was released from prison in the summer of 2010.

Last year Abramoff published an autobiographical memoir entitled “Capitol Punishment,” uncovering what he describes as America’s broken democracy and examining the drastic corrective measures needed to repair it. A book signing will follow the discussion at William Peace University.
